Make the walk work for your family

You do not have to explore the entire park. A simple route and time to play can be more enjoyable than a packed programme.

With a baby and a pushchair

Plan a short loop with an easy way back. A wide path in a photograph does not confirm an accessible entrance or a route without steps.

  • Check the actual entrance: a map pin may mark the middle of the park.
  • Ask about surfaces, steps and toilets; do not assume unlisted facilities are available.
  • Allow time for breaks and choose your return route before your child gets tired.
Children playing in a playground beside trees Time to run and play

Time to run and play

Combine a short walk with playground time for a preschooler. With an older child, choose a walking route or a place for active play before setting out.

  • Check that a playground is listed, then assess whether the equipment suits your child on arrival.
  • For bikes or scooters, check the rules and whether there are suitable paths.
  • Stay close to children near water; plan drinks, food and breaks ahead of time.

A walk or a closer look at nature?

Choose the kind of day you want, then check the individual place.

Parks and boulevards

For walking, playing and relaxing outdoors. A park does not always have a playground: look for an explicit mention in its description. A short route near home can work well for a quick outing.

Botanical gardens

For a slower walk and discovering plants. Garden admission, greenhouse visits and guided tours may have separate charges. Check the opening hours and visiting rules for each area.

Before you leave

Check a few details about your chosen place.

  • Weather, wind and a suitable time for your walk.
  • The entrance address, your journey there and back, and parking arrangements if needed.
  • Opening hours for the grounds and individual attractions, plus playground availability.
  • Admission and extra charges for both children and adults.

Questions about family walks

What to check when choosing a park and planning your spending.

Which Baku parks can we visit for free?

The places below are marked as free in the directory. “Free entry” is a separate condition: rides, rentals and other services may cost extra. A missing price does not mean a visit is free.

Where can we walk with a pushchair?

Choose by entrance access, surfaces and changes in level. For example, the Highland Park listing mentions steps and terraces: a good view does not guarantee an easy pushchair route. Check the most suitable entrance beforehand.

How do we find a park with a playground?

Read the place description: the “Parks and playgrounds” category alone does not confirm a play area. An age label of 0+ refers to walking in the park; equipment and attractions may have their own restrictions.

Where can we walk beside the sea with children in Baku?

Baku Boulevard is listed in the directory. Its page describes free access to the promenade, with boat trips and some attractions charged separately. Choose a manageable stretch and check the wind before leaving.

Can we have a picnic in a park?

Rules vary: a green space does not automatically allow picnics or food brought from home. Check the individual park. Ganjlik Park in the directory is in Khatai district — do not confuse it with the area around Ganjlik metro station.

What can we do on a rainy or windy day?

Keep the walk short or choose a museum or indoor play centre from our wider Baku guide. Do not rely on a shelter, café or indoor space at a park unless its presence and availability are confirmed.
